Everything built around one job: verifiable integrity

FileToHash covers the full loop of a hashing task — generate a value, watch for change, and leave a record someone else can check.

Core hashing

Fast, accurate, and repeatable

Fast file & folder hashing

Select a single file, a batch of files, or a full folder tree. FileToHash walks the directory structure and hashes each item in sequence, so nothing gets skipped.

MD5, SHA-1 & SHA-256 support

Choose the algorithm your case or policy requires, or generate more than one value for the same file in a single pass.

Batch hashing workflow

Queue a whole evidence set and work through it in one session, with results kept in the order you added them.

Reporting & export

Results you can hand to someone else

Professional PDF reports

Export a clean, structured PDF for each hashing session — file names, paths, algorithms, digest values, and timestamps laid out for a case file or internal review.

CSV export

Send the same results to CSV when you need to sort, filter, or pull hashing data into a spreadsheet or another case-management tool.

Integrity & audit

Know when something changed

These features are designed to support forensic workflows and help detect tampering — they describe FileToHash's own safeguards, not a guarantee about legal outcomes.

Integrity status warning

If a file is modified while it is being hashed, FileToHash flags the session so you know the result may not reflect the file's original state — and can re-run it.

Tamper-evident audit logs (HMAC-SHA256)

Session logs are signed with HMAC-SHA256. If a log entry is altered after the fact, the signature will no longer match — helping you notice, not preventing every possible attack.

Security event logging

Application-level events — such as sign-ins to settings, report exports, and configuration changes — are recorded with a timestamp for later review.

Local-only processing

Hashing happens entirely on your Windows machine. Files and folders you select are never uploaded anywhere by FileToHash.

Usability

Built for mixed technical teams

Dark & light theme support

Switch between a dark theme for lab and field conditions and a light theme for bright offices or shared screens.

Simple interface

Clear labels, a straightforward hashing flow, and plain-language results — designed so both forensic specialists and non-technical reviewers can use it confidently.
